The snow-covered hills and forests of the South Cariboo provide the ideal landscape for a myriad of winter activities. Here you can take a horse drawn sleigh ride over the wide open spaces, hire your own dog team to explore snow-laden trails, take a snowmobile to the top of the world, have a skate on a frozen pond or participate in an energetic shinny match. The South Cariboo continues to solidify its reputation as a snowmobiler's paradise. The region also offers first-rate support facilities - comfortable accommodations, fine restaurants, and the availability of other winter pursuits. The South Cariboo describes itself as the International Nordic Ski Capital, and who can argue with a town that displays the world's largest cross country skis, 36 foot Karhu racing skis, outside it's Visitor Info Centre. Better still, who can argue with the area's 150 kilometre community based trails system, one of the longest groomed networks in North America. Downhill skiing can be enjoyed at Mount Timothy, 45 minutes north of 100 Mile House and 23 kilometres east of Lac La Hache. |
